Church History
This church was organized in 1917 as a Christian Science Society, and in 1921 became First Church of Christ, Scientist, Haddon Heights, New Jersey. The edifice was built in 1925 as an exact duplicate of an old English church, with its beamed ceilings, slate roof and Tudor style. The beautiful pipe organ provides music for the services, including the hymns and the solo each Sunday.
Church Services
This church is a branch of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, and is dedicated to uplifting and healing mankind through a clearer understanding of God. The foundation of these services is the reading of the Christian Science Bible Lesson which focuses on a new subject each week and can be studied by all during the week. You are warmly invited to attend these services which are held each Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
Sunday School
Our Sunday School is also held at 11:00 a.m. Dedicated teachers help their students learn how to turn to God for inspiration, guidance, and healing through the Ten Commandments, the Lord's Prayer and the Sermon on the Mount along with the weekly Bible Lesson.
Nursery
Children too young for Sunday School are lovingly cared for in our Children's room, which is also available for the Wednesday evening meetings.
Wednesday Evening Meetings
In addition to the Sunday service, we hope you will join us for our Wednesday Evening Meetings held here each week at 8:00 p.m. Passages from the Bible and the textbook are read; then all are invited to share how their understanding of God brought inspiration and healing to their lives.
Reading Room
A quiet sanctuary awaits you at the Christian Science Reading Room located at 604 Station Avenue, Haddon Heights. It is open from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The atmosphere of the Reading Room is conducive to the study of the Bible, and the textbook of Christian Science, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, and other literature such as the Sentinel, Journal and the award winning newspaper, the Christian Science Monitor. In addition, you can find accounts of healing dating back to the late 1800's which are in bound volumes.
Haddon Heights, New Jersey
Haddon Heights is a very friendly and family oriented community located in Camden County and just 8 miles from Philadelphia. The Station Avenue business district has something for everyone, from the well-known Station House Restaurant (conveniently located right next to our Christian Science Reading Room), to an old-fashioned 5&10 cent store. Here you can take your time to browse the shops without worrying about parking, for there are no parking meters, there is plenty of free parking - or sit in the train station park and watch the trains go by. This lovely town has been the home of our Christian Science Church for 75 years.
